335is Limp Mode Symptoms

I don't encounter it during normal driving. When I need extra power to overtake another car it comes on. It clears when I turn off the engine. It will only come on when I need more power than normal.

I just purchased new tires and rims so I am dreading taking it in. I know it could be a number of things. But any hunches out there?

I am hoping for some type of a hose. I recently had the main fuel pump replaced. I am hoping its not a turbo issue or throttle actuator.

I don't have a code reader. I was looking to get one on Amazon. But wasn't sure if it would be a good purchase if I am not going to fix it myself. I guess it would mainly be for peace of mind.

Getting a code reader is a Good idea imo even if you're not doing the repairs. you can research what's going on so when you take it to a place who's going to fix it you can some what validate what the repair place tells you is the problem.

Go to Advance Auto or Autozone. They usually will scan your car for free. It's just a hook up to your OBD.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I will buy a code reader anyway. Is there a difference in readers? I found one that does my model on Amazon. From what my repair guy says is that it gives you leads to the issue. When my fuel pump failed I had to bring it in more than once for him to diagnose the issue.

Limp Mode

I've had two issues with my 2011 335is

Blown charge pipe caused the reduced power mode/light, it reset when I restarted and I could baby it and it wouldn't come on.

Service engine soon light came on and the car went into limp mode when I was accelerating. It reset when I shutdown. I replaced the coils and plugs and it went away.

Code reader would help.

Charge pipe covered under recall.

I had one mismatched coil, replaced coils and plugs from FCPEuro for about 210.

I had a similar issue. Took it to BMW and they replaced the HPFP whited solved the issue. Weeks later my charge pipe cracked! Car runs solid now. I also changed the plugs.

There are similar issues with the injectors.

Take it to a good indy and they will sort it out. Or a dealer. My IS was covered for the HPFP and charge pipe (and injectors). 2011 with 45K miles.

Good luck.
