Should something be on this gauge?

I know this sounds silly but I feel like the gauge on the left should have something below it? It feels like in my other BMWs, there was something there and on this car, itís just black. Am I just crazy? You can say yes lol

Nope, nothing goes there even though it looks like it should. On the 5s and X5s that spot has information there, but on the 4s it definitely doesnt... and it looks like it should, I agree.

Isn't it a part of the "Premium Package" ?

"Instrument cluster with extended contents
In addition to the standard readouts, the instrument cluster with extended contents includes a high-resolution Info Display for showing Check Control functions, BMW Navigation system directions, and other data."

Funny thing is, I do have the premium package. So does that mean I should or shouldn't have something there then?

You do have the cluster with extender display, the standard cluster (see below) has a tiny display that doesn't show the driving dynamics gauge, nor navigation details (if you have the nav package).

+1.

Youíre not crazy. Looks like something is missing, but nothing displays there.

Shouldn't.

Extended contents only extends under the tach, not the speedo.

What I posted is accurate for 2016s with the extended display (My 435 has every option except heated rear seats, and B&O sound, but I do have harmon kardon), so I know its not a missing package. OP I actually asked this question shortly after I got my car to the board, because that area looks so "blank". On my wifes X5 there is info there (she has a different cluster actually), and I remember reading somewhere that on new 4 series has an option for a digital cluster?

anyway, Ops cluster looks like mine and I can 100 percent confirm nothing ever appears there.

I've always wondered why this space hasn't been utilized. Our '17 X3 has a 'Distance to Empty' gauge in that space. No reason the 3 series couldn't have something like that there too.

Distance to empty is already part of the center display and the fuel guage is available. No need to clutter the dial with redundant information.

That doesn't mean that the extended contents window could not extend in both directions so you don't have to cycle through what info is shown. Smaller display costs less--pure and simple.

No--it's blank. There is no screen there.

Point is, the X3 has the same 'screen', but actually utilizes it. In the 3 series, it's just blank and comes across as cheap. Especially when you have the 'extended display'. And, yes, you can have the center display show distance to empty, so technically redundant. Same set up in the X3, but not really 'clutter' IMHO.

No. There's no screen there. You need hardware to exist if you want to re-code software. Watch this video and look at the extended contents window that changes color during the IP test. There is nothing under the speedometer.

Well that blows. as some folks have stated seems such a wasted space.

I would think as well from a bmw manufacturing standpoint and efficiency. They would have the hardware already included seeing that the gauge cluster is the same as the x3 and others.
