CLEARShield Opinions
I've been searching for a while - but most posts are pretty old. My local tinter is offering ClearShield with installation for $350.00. I'm thinking about having it installed but I'm not sure. For those of you who've had them installed, what are your experiences, and would you highly recommend it or not? My car is Silver Gray. Does anyone have any pics of a Silvergray BMW with the clearshield?
The brand of tint they are using looks like it's called Bekaert Specialty films. The website for the product is www.clearshield.com . Has anyone heard of this brand? How does it compare to the 3M or Llumar clear bras? Thanks everyone!

Had the full stoneguard kit installed last summer after I had my whole front end resprayed on my E36 M. WELL worth it. I still have a few chips, but they are all in the small places the bra did not cover. I know I would have hundreds more if I had not gotten it done.
I paid $500, but that was for the full kit on the fenders, bumper, center grill section and the mirrors. I say do it. It shows the least in direct sunlight. Last edited by TD330ci; 04-25-2005 at 11:58 AM. |

I have a clearbra from 3M. I think it is a nice idea, but I see damage beneath the surface of the bra (this could possibly be to the bra. Haven't been able to figure it out). I drive my car hard and I think the clear bra is only helpful up to 70 mph. Mine cost $600 installed.

clear bra on bumper
For you guys with the clear bra's on your bumpers: How good a job were they able to do on the straighness of the upper edge of the bra (just below the black plastic trim piece)?
I just had my hood and bumper done and I'm pretty dissapointed with the look. My main gripe is that they did a pretty good job of putting it on the front valance but at the top they couldn't maintain an even line. It is about 1/8" below the black trim for most of the way and then on the left side where it wraps around to the side, it droops almost 3/4" from the trim. I've been back to the installer a few times to have them look at it or attempt to fix it and now I finally spoke to the manager. He gave me the line that it is a 4/5 on difficulty to put the film on my car and he thought it looked pretty good. I just wonder what my boss would say if I told him, "Sorry I didn't do the job right, but it was hard." Does anyone have a close up of their installations on the bumper? I attached some photos of my install and wanted some feedback on whether I was being too picky or if anybody else thinks this is unacceptable. The other dissapointment was the 1/8" gap around the hood and top fender pieces. The manager has offered to pull off the clear bra and only refund me for the materials cost, but I think if it is bad enough, they should refund all or at least 1/2 labor. |

Too picky?
You're not being too picky. I've thought about getting this done on my car and looked at alot of cars at my local shop. They all look great with no uneven lines. Don't settle for what the other guy (dealer) thinks about how it looks, it's your car.
Good luck with the fix! |
