Is the Steptronic on the ZHP specially tuned?

Does anyone know if the Steptronic software on the ZHP is specially tuned? It seems that mine might not be taking advantage of the 300 rpm higher redline on the ZHP. Mine will shift just before the 3 hatch marks at WOT, not at the higher redline.

It also seems on the flip side that this Step is more intuitive than my old 2000 328i's was. It seems to more precisely sense when a downshift is needed going into a turn or when going down a down grade etc.

Did BMW just throw in a normaly tuned Step or is it differant?

I know there are a few other ZHP Step owners out there.

Anyone??

thx,
Chad

Philip,
Care to elaborate? Are there any hard specifications from BMW concerning this topic? How do you know this as fact?

Chad,

I'm using BMW's Fast Facts, 2005 edition, as my source. Per that document, all 330s equipped with an automatic transmission (with the exception of the xi) use a ZF 5 HP 19 5-speed STEPTRONIC with Adaptive Transmission Control and selectable Sport mode.
That same document does specify where ZHP-equipped specifications differ: final drive ration, acceleration times, wheel/tire specifications, etc. That same document has a detailed description of the Performance Package, covering 21 separate bullet points. No mention is made of any transmission modifications.

But ZHPers do get a nifty alcantara-covered shift boot for their sledge-o-matics.

Edit: Just reread this post and realized I sound like a d!ck. But I'm not. Really.

Philip,
Thanks for the info. So the ZHP Step does have a different final drive ratio than the stock Step?

Also, my previous question referred to whether the software was programed different for the Step in the ZHP as the ZHP has a 300 rpm higher redline. Wouldn't make sense to me that BMW wouldn't reprogram the Step to utilize the higher redline.
Thanks again for the info I appreciate it.
Chad

Chad, as someone who also drives a step 330i ZHP ,
I too, could not find any info for you.

I really love my 330i ZHP ; I regret not learning to drive stick.
