Trunk rattle
My car has recently developed a slight (but quite annoying on a 2-month old vehicle) rattle seemingly coming from the trunk on the driver's side that manifests itself when going over bumps or rough pavement. It doesn't seem to get much louder with the severity of the bumps, and doesn't happen at every bump. I am planning to ask the dealer to take a look, but in the meantime, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks. |

Do you have folding rear seats? Is it actually in the trunk? Might be the area where the seat hits the rear support. Mine did it on occasion, mostly in cold weather. Someone had posted some time ago to put a piece of Velcro there but I never did (yet).

my 2005 325i had a subtle rear deck noise since day1. i tried 78 difference "fixes" to no avail. i gave up and went to the dealership and it was fixed by replacing a bad driver's side shock mount.

check your tool kit for a loose tool, the deck and the folding seats also are a common issue. Maybe even your jack and spare

I had the same issue - turned out my license plate was secured with only 2 screws and not 4....it was actually the plate making noise....

I'm pretty sure mine is in the trunk. I've verified it's not the rear headrests, not the rear fold-down seats, not the rear door window mechanism. The rear shock mount could be it. I've had too much fun driving the car to take it to the dealer to have it checked out. Sometime in the next couple months I will do this and have the erratic/inconsistent alarm chirp fixed at the same time.
