Is LoJack Installation Worth?
Considering Lojack install for my X3 which is scheduled to arrive in 10 days.
Forget about the coded key requirment to start the vehicle. BMW security system still doesn't prevent the HiJacker taking the car away along with my kids. I don't won't to regret for not taking this option when it was offerred. My agent said that I will only save $20 per year on inurance with Lojack option. Any thoughts/Opinions?

It's definately not worth it from an insurance cost savings perspective.
BMW Assist is tied to the sattelite antenna, which is easily disconnected, so LoJack is better in that regard. Comes down to how much peace of mind you need, where you park, value of car etc...

The BMW CA himself told me it's the first thing that happens. And crooks who target new, expensive BMWs with sophisticated inherent security themselves are generally not 'not-so-smart'.

The "not-so-smart" ones are busy breaking into Honda's using a flat blade screw driver (ask me how I know). Any info that might be exposed here is probably already common knowledge in car theft circles. Or people trying to hide their cars from repo men. |

LoJack is not a universal system in the sense not that all police departments are LoJack detection capable. Go to to the LoJack website and see a listing with the coverage they provide. You will be shocked at the big holes (lack of coverage) that you will find.

For that matter, you might as well not drive period -- since you have a much greater chance of getting killed in a car accident than getting car-jacked. I say, the coded key is enough to stop most thieves. More than enough. If the car is car-jacked, insurance will pay for it. And if someone with a gun takes your wife and kids, I think a material possesion like a car is the least of your worries. |
