Questions about 545/550, upcoming changes?

Hi guys, I just joined this forum and I find the posts that I have read to be already very useful. I am planning to buy a new 5 series in Hong Kong and I have a few questions about it since I am not sure if the car that I'm looking at now is the latest model/modifications (eg. the engine). The 530i has 258bhp and the 545i has 336bhp. I am wondering if there is any news (for the US) that a new engine will be coming for these two models? Also, when is the 550i going to come out and what is the difference between that and the 545i? Thanks in advance. It would also be a great help if anyone can warn me of any new changes for the 5 series within the coming 2 years.

The 2006 5ers will include a 550i that replaces the 545i. Also, the 525i and 530i coming for 2006 will have updated and more powerful engines than their predecessors (not sure how much more, however, but it is a good 30 hp I think).

Actually, the information the 6 cylinder engines for the 2006 5 series is available at www.bmwusa.com. Only the 545i remains from the 2005 model year, presumably in anticipation of it picking up the 750i's new 8 cylinder in the fall. Hope this helps,

I have just put money down on a new 550i for delivery in mid October although the dealer has yet to have any details or options / final price etc but wanted to get my name on the list here first. Anyone have any prices yet?? Thanks

2002 540i / six speed

The stuck thread at the top of this forum here will give you a decent ballpark range for the cost of the car. Add a couple k for good measure and you might be close.
