I'm buying a 97 ---, need advice

so i've cut down the choices from hundreds of hundreds of cars to 2 cars.
first is a very nice one owner 97' 318i sedan http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...559327214&rd=1
Im test driving this one on tues. all i have ever gotten to test drive as of date has been nothing but 318s, ive never had the chance to drive a 6 cylinder bmw.
I got down the car to $5500 which isnt that much of savings acording to the blue book.
and the second candidate is a 328i sedan white but its still a 328i
now this car is a couple thousand dollars more in value but i got it down to $5000
The 328i has 10000 more miles but it has premium sound and a Clarion stereo system with two remotes, however this car had its clutch replaced. I dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing.
oh and one more thing, the 328i has a problem with the climate control which turns on and off, might need a new board.

thats about it, should i be so picky about the white color or is the price worth it?
or is the v6 really that much greater (both cars are manual)

That 318i on ebay looks nice, but hate the tan interior, black/black is the perfect combo ! The car looks a little to basic for my taste. Try looking for a moderatly loaded 318i, im sure u can get one for the same price and millage.

havn't seen the 328 that you mentioned, but it sounded ok. Does either have service history or maintanence receipts? I wouldn't worry too much for the 10000miles difference.

Clutch replacement can be good or bad. Is it smooth to go into and between gears? See if you can hear any tranny noise for signs of abuse. Does the tranny take up ok? any play in the padel?

Personally I would take the 328 and use the savings to do a good once over servicing and patch jobs.

Edited for typo

BMW does not make V6 motors, they are all inline 6.

The 318i was extremely slow car. I would hold out for a 328i. The sale price for the 318i on ebay was a little on the high side.

Good luck with your search.
