I got her! + step question

Picked up my Jet Black 325i on Saturday. It is sweet!
The only bad thing right now is I am suffering from the "break-in blues" .

So far I am loving everything about it, and the transmission really seems more sophisticated than ever. It seems to me, that when you're slowing down it actually downshifts through the gears rather than just staying in the current gear and shifting down into 1 around 5mph.

If I am correct about this it means that there will be a lot less lag time when coming out of a corner or hitting the gas after breaking suddenly. I've noticed on several occasions that while slowing to a stop the rpm needle shoots up and I can feel the gears engaging. The step in my x5 certainly doesn't do this. So either this is something new and really cool or my tranny is fubar

BTW, sorry about not posting pics, I gotta wait till this weekend.

I do hope you are right. I had a Tiptronic 911, and when it was given a caning, it would agressively downshift under brakes. If the 330i SP is similar, I'd be delighted.

I wonder if the Sports Pack affects the programming of the Steptronic? Anyone know?

If you put your step in sport mode, you will really notice the downshifting.

my 03' 330ci step downshifts one gear at a time so what you're seeing is not a new feature.

I test-drove a steptronic E90 and it definitely downshifts in sports mode (did most of my driving that way). I was delighted to see that! But not enough to make me get that instead of a manual transmission.

Awesome, well that's great.

I wonder if it's more noticeable in the e90 cuz of the extra gear. I will put it in sport mode on the way home tonight and check it out.

This weekend I'll get the car washed and post some pics for y'all.

One gripe...my user manual (the leather container) doesn't fit in the glove box!

I put mine in that cubby space beneath the trunk cover.

it fits after succesfully forcing it in the first time. Make sure you have the open in facing the front of the car. Once i forced it in and left it in there overnight it goes back in snuggly every time now.

The downshifts are indeed more aggressive and noticeable in sport mode. It's nice to have engineers that care about performance, even if you are getting a slushie

The transmission and its logic is very smart and quick. Adaptive features may or may not, depending on your driving habits, change that shift program you are experiencing.

I agree about the lag time, or lack thereof, it shifts quickly and predictably.

I love my E90 330i w/steptronic.

does the chrome pipes come with the sports package or did you have to add that on yourself.

I was so happily surprised with the performance of the step when I test drove the new 325i that I actually would consider buying one, if I was in the market for a new car with automatic transmission (maybe for the wife!).

I put the chrome tips on. My first mod to a car ever!

...other than car stereos that is. They are pretty cheap and are a breeze to put on. Circle BMW has them for about $25 each I think.
