Mein Auto: 2006 bmw 325
drove 325 without sport suspension

I have a 2002 bmw 330xi,which has its own type of sports suspension std, from my experience at the time i purchased it,it felt between a 330 std suspension and sports suspension.I just recently test drove a 2006 bmw 325i without sports suspension(there were no 325 0r 330s available with sports suspension.I really liked the larger interior space, the new terra seats(they are beautiful)and the general refinement of the e90.I did feel my 330 handled much better,i hope the sports suspension really makes a difference on the e90.wondering if i could get some feed back on the sports supension of the e90.does it have more road feel?much tighter around the curvy roads,is it still the ultimate driving machine?I don't want to buy an infiniti!!!

Mein Auto: Depends on the day!
The previous E46 XI from what I have read from BMW did not have any sport suspension (it was calibrated for the extra 1"+ ride height and the added weight of the extra components not for performance in anyway), just the rims, and cosmetic stuff. The new xi will also not have any sport suspension, it is not and has not been feasible the way the car/ drive train is designed. The new 3 E90 is over 25% stiffer than the previous generation without the sport. The difference is more than likely the the "feel" through the steering wheel, the E90 is less "attached" the road than E46 and larger in size so it is a bit less tossable. The sport package does however make the ride a bit stiffer and adds the larger tires and lowers the ride height. The difference in your E46 could also be the difference in the tire profile, the lower profiles feel more attached to the road than the non-performance type. The E90 from my experience is a much more refined ride and the more you push it the harder it pushes back.

I have a 325i e90 with standard suspension.

This is my first bimmer so my perception may be a bit skewed from you seasoned enthusiasts. However, this car hugs corners and handles extreme driving so well I'm not sure the sport suspension is a must have. For those people that demand the sport feel(which was tad rougher but tighter when i test drove a 330) I guess its worth it. But if you are concerned about an e90 not handling well without sport, then dont be concerned.

I have a non-sport E46 since new (1999), and regretted for not having the sport package ever since. For me, I thought the non-sport E46 was sloppy. You will ask why did you get the car anyway? It was because I was thinking a 323i at that time, but I came acrossed a 328i with just the right options, and the dealer would deal with that one because it is a manual. For just a $2000 (I think it was less than that) more, I could have gotten one with sport package, which comes with sport steering wheel, seats, suspension, and 17" wheels. I think it is actually a great deal, and it should be just a little more to the payment. I have been kicking myself for getting the non-sport.

If you like cars, and like driving, can't do wrong with the sport package.

Worst, I have been trying to the sport package suspension retrofitted into my non-sport by the dealer, and it cost much more, and it didn't feel right for some reason.
