They definitely do drive differently! Both have their strengths though...

If I didn't get an E90 330i, I would have bought either:

1. E46 M3
2. E46 330i ZHP

I was originally planning to place an order for one of the "last" E46 M3's. I loved the style and performance of that car. But after seeing the E90 at the NY Auto show I was pleasantly surprised. I figured it made financial sense to get the newer car (to avoid the likely depreciation of having an "old model" car). And I was able to order a fully loaded 330i for about $12k less than my planned M3.

I was also considering the E46 330i because it was also a great car for even less money.

Me too originally, but a new E46 or even a slightly used one was going to be only about $1K less than a new E90 so I went new. I didn't think I would ever buy a car this soon in it's model year, but I did.

Well my other car is a 2001 Jeep Wrangler so that's got me covered for the weekends and for the occasional convertible lusts.

I was probably days away from actually buying the Acura TL but I'm so glad that I waited. A less-than-stellar test drive in the TL kept me from buying it based on the interior alone. Now that there are literally thousands of new TLs on the road here, I'm not even considering one even if the E90 disappeared tomorrow (yes I am so shallow as to not want something just because everyone else is driving it). I'd probably cast my vote in for the Mini Cooper S as well because that looks like an amazing fun daily driver.

If it transformed into a 30 foot tall robot to slash through the construction traffic around here I'd get one today!

For me if my first choice was a E90 330i, then my 2nd choice that keeps it in the same class will probably be an S-line A4 2.0T Quattro. Keeping it in the same brand then E46 330Ci M package. If I don't have to keep it in the same class then it will be a S-line A3 2.0T Quattro(but quattro is not avaliable with 2.0T for the A3)

I will also look into S40 T5AWD and Legacy GT LTD. Possibily C230 Sports Sedan(AMG Package).

Murano SL AWD Tourning was my second choice. Nice vehicle, but the interior materials, fit & finish were not quite BMW standards, front wheel drive w/ CVT was questionable over the long term. Better monthly operating expenses w/ 325i - lower fuel usage, free service for 50K miles.

I would get an Audi A4. I was getting tired of waiting for my E90 and went to the Audi dealer here. They got me an A4 3.2 for 36,000 but it didn't have NAV and I had to wait 2 weeks. The wait for my E90 was only 3 wks so I decided to wait.
