the color black

while in europe 6 weeks ago i picked up my o6 530 xi wagon in titanium grey with beige int. my friend met me there having picked up his 530 sedan metallic black/ black int. i was drooling over how good his sedan looked in the sapphire black metallic. it accentuates the lines of the sedan and simply looked very sharp. i sort of kicked my self for not ordering my wagon in black, but tried to tell myself that here in oregon where it rains alot, one would need a private detailer to keep it looking good.
well, cut to 5 weeks later, his car just came in (mine is due in a couple of weeks). i could already see swirl marks on his car and that luscious black onyx look is all but gone. i am sure the car needs a good coat or two of wax. but i have to say i am very happy with my decision. black is great but tough to keep looking the way we would all like..nothing new there..

Yes, I would never buy a black car. I'm vacationing with my brother right now and he has a black Range Rover and a black silverado here and both of them constantly look dirty despite the fact that they are garaged and washed regularly.

Seriously? I love that color and had always thought it was pretty much the only dark color that hid dirt and stayed looking clean.

Yep, dark colors look great, but are hard to maintain.

Yup, they are hard to keep clean. I have applied Rejex to mine and it helps with the water marks.

This is my first post and I already feel like I'm part of a family..........I just bought a black 540i with tan int., in L.A.,(I live in Las Vegas) I'm very excited and happy with it! It's my first decent vehicle. Stayed away from car payments for over 15 years by driving old cash paid vehicles while maintaining them myself. Saved my money and paid cash for this.
Titanium grey is a great color, Wagonman, (and a great car), it was my second choice. I love black cars though, so I went with that, don't mind the maintenance. ........So, you should get it in two weeks? Good luck with it, post back, let us know how you like it.

thanks for your comments. having had 4 silver/grey cars in a row and swearing that i was going to do something different this time...i couldnt. titanium grey was my way of branching out. i love the silver grey but it doesnt go with beige int very well which i wanted to try. titanium silver is a standby but i have had two of those and wanted a change. i really like titanium grey it is very distinctive color. i sure hope it is hard to keep clean.

I'm on my 3rd Black bimmer....... and I live in the Portland area. I've had cars of all colors and actually found white to be the hardest to keep clean.

As far as the swirls go...... check with the Detail forum. There are lots of tricks there to avoid swirls like:

• Don't use a wheel.

• Don't drive through a car wash.

• Wash/dry the hood, roof and truck from front to back.

• Wash/dry the sides and rear top to bottom.

• Use the 2 bucket method.

I have noticed that this new paint procedure (water solvable) is much softer and spots much easier than my previous 2.
