Exclamation Check engine light & Transmission Module Light

Hi, I'm new to this board here. The info is awesome.

Got a problem that's come up lately. The lights in and on the car glows and dims and the RPM meter dips down to like 500RPM, when the car is idle. Then the check engine light would flash a few times and then when the CEL stays on the transmission Module Light goes on as well and the car accelerates slugishly. I've been looking through the board and did the "stomp test" to find the fault code and I'm getting 1231, (Battery voltage/DME main relay).

Please help, I don't know what's going on! I checked the battery which was replaced last year and I've got the green light on the thing that says its sufficiently charged?

BTW, I have a 1993 318is.

Alternator

It was the alternator, simple as that. But the darn thing was that the dealership wouldn't fix it unless they did a diagnosis even after telling them exactly what I needed and wanted to do.

Stomp test will give you some info but not all info. Dealership plug the computer in can see a lot more than a stomp test can. They just want to make sure you car is fully fixed.

If you are adament that is all you need, you might want to go to a normal garage. Save yourself quite a few bucks.

Yup

Realized that that was probably what they did. While they were at it, they also found that the water pump was seeping a bit, do you think I can get away with leaving it for now?

Don't know

My friend said that if it's not like squirting or leaking rapidly then I can get away with it for now.
