Radio Problem

I'm a newbie looking for help. The radio in my 1994 530i will only play for several minutes before cutting off. During this time the front speakers sound normal, but the rear speakers produce a crackling sound. I would like to know how to access the amplifier and the rear speakers. I have been told the amplifier is located in the trunk, but so far I can't find it. Nor can I get to the rear speakers just to see if I have a loose wire.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or guidance.
Bill
