Interior Lights Don't Work (1992, E34)

I have a 1992 BMW 525 wagon and the interior lights do not work. I discovered that no power is getting to the map light and the other interior lights. I'm thinking that's because the Control Module is not switching the power on.... And that leads me to think that maybe the door switch is not working. Do you think this could be the problem?

All my other accessories and electrical system is checking out fine. Help!

Still looking for an answer. I checked the door microswitch and it's okay.

To me the door microswitch is normally open and when you lift the lever it closes the circuit (short) which tells the CM the door lever has been lifted. You can test this without removing the lock by removing the door pannel and separating the right-most (gray) connector and doing a continuity test; i.e., when lifting the door handle the meter should indicate a short.

In my case the door switch is okay.... So why aren't my interior lights getting power? I'm now thinking it's the relay in the CM. However, I'm always open to new ideas.

Question: There are three electrical connections to the door handle and all three are nicely accessable and color coded. There is a white, yellow, and gray connector.... but what do they do?

...I know the gray connector is the door micro switch since it shorts out when you open the door handle.

... And the yellow switch has 12V going on one side and gnd on the other, but I'm not sure what it does?

.... And the which switch is completely unknown to me.

Anyone know what the yellow and white connectors are for?

Hey Dan. With him having only 53 posts and this thread being from 8 years ago, I doubt he will respond.

You may want to try sending him a PM since it will go to his e-mail as well (assuming he still has the same e-mail address).

could be the fuse in the front engine compartment fusebox that corresponds to the interior lighting. I pulled mine because I think it was also providing power to the glove box flashlight charger and I suspected it was slowly draining my battery over long periods so I just pulled it and haven't had any battery issues since then.

So I don't have interior lights except if I stick the fuse back in there. I forget offhand which fuse it was, you can check Bentley's for your model, but it could be that.

Manuel I have lights when the boot is open, just not the doors.. My battery isn't draining and the fuse is checked and fine.. It'll be something else, with BMWFF's help we'll figure it out..
