rear windows won't work
95 525it
When i try to roll the back windows down i just hear a little click in the motor in the door. It makes the same noise if I try from the front switches or the switch on the door. Its kind of like the sound a bad solenoid makes on a starter. I took the door panel off and everything is connected. Is there a way to test for low voltage or any other ideas. They worked when I test drove the car for purchase (about a month ago) and worked a few times since I bought it. The front windows work just fine. Thanks, Dave in Frisco |

Dave in Frisco:
The rear window motors on the E34 have a bad habit of "sticking". Here's what you need to do to solve the problem. Get in your touring and turn on the engine. Go to the back seat and hold the window switch in the "down" positon. While you are doing this hit the door panel in the middle with your fist as hard as you can. This should "un-stick" the window motor. I know that it works in my 1995 E34 touring. Please let us know if it works for you. |

I have a 1992 525 wagon and I was getting a clicking noise out of my window motor too. For months I just helped the window up and lived with it. Then the other day I took the entire door apart and with closer examination I found that the window motor needed to be replaced. It would appear that the worm drive mates with a plastic ring gear inside the 3" round plastic housing, and the clicking noise is the ring gear jumping the metal ring gear due to wear. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a way to rebuild the unit yourself and taking it apart did not accomplish anything. Therefore, I ordered a new one from Patrick at BMA for $95. Most internet places were quoting $120 and the Stealer wanted $160 for the same part from Vemo. Note: The LF & RR motors are the same... Just as the RF and LR motors are the same.... but double check your part numbers before ordering.
