Rumble in the Jungle
My '98 328i is making a rumble/grinding noise when I drive it. The noise is persistent under acceleration/deceleration and is prominent from 15 mph to 80, the speed at which I first noticed it. I have searched and found several possible explanations such as the driveshaft carrier bearing or a wheel bearing, but I'm not sure how to tell which one it might be. When the car makes the noise, it actually vibrates the car a bit and it feels centralized, leading me to believe it is NOT a wheel bearing, but I can't be sure without checking the bearings. I'm not afraid to work on my car but I would like some tips as to what to look for and how to eliminate what the problem is not. Thanks so much for the help guys and gals.
