Need help choosing wheel / tire combo on tire rack

Guys,

I recetly got a 5 speed, 328iS that came with the factory 15" wheels that I am trying to upgrade to 17". I live in SOCAL and like to drive with spirit. I am unlikely to track or autocross the car but would like good handling without too much compromise on ride.

I have narrowed my wheel choices to Kosei K1 Racing(16.8lbs) OR ASA AR1(21.2lbs) The Kosei's are light! but I dont necessarily find them attractive. Like the look of ASA

Tires - Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 / Kumho Ecsta MX / Yokohama AVS Sport. These are max performance tires. Should I be looking at Ultra performance summer's as well??

What do you think is the best wheel and tire choice among these for me?? Do you guys recommend some other combination??

Of the three choices given the Kumho MX's gets my vote. IMO you can't beat the grip for the price. So far they are my favorites. Sticky and responsive when dry .... "pretty decent" in wet conditions. I've had my current set of Kumhos for about 4kmi and 2 auto-x and there is still quite a bit of life left. Even if you won't be competing the extra grip would be nice to have on the street. Another really good tire in that price range would be the TOYO T1S. I put about 11k on my last set. It was a great performer which I would rank above the YOKO's. But yah, Kumho MX still wins.

As for the wheels, if you are not going to be racing then you might as well get what you think looks good. Go for the ASA AR1's, the 328 makes enough touque to handle a 21lb wheel. If it were a 318 or 325 up for discussion my opinion would be different.

What do you think about the profile? Should I go to 40 instead of 45?? Do you think it will screw the ride far too much??

Well I'd go for the 225/45/17 for two reasons:

1) More sidewall = more comfortable ride and better handling

2) I don't think either of the choices you listed are available in 225/40/17 ...or at least I've never seen them listed on tirerack. I believe the next step up will be 245/40/17 but that is some serious meat. I'm running 235's with minor rubbing when the car is fully loaded, you will almost def need your fenders rolled.
