How Many Times Has BMW Won Indy or Daytona?

The only factory supported racing that BMW is involved in (that I'm aware of) is F1. They are having a good season in F1 but are far inferior to Ferrari. There are lots of BMWs in Speed World Challange, Grand Am Series, club racing, etc. but those are not backed by BMW.

That's true for this year, but BMW has had a lot of factory team success up until this year.

Due to the pissing match with Porsche in the ALMS, BMW Motorsport decided to just concentrate on F1 this year. Hopefully, we'll see the BMWs back in ALMS soon (especially with Audi deciding to move on).

I thought I saw / read somewhere that BMW was officially supporting a European Touring Car team since the GTR was dropped. Anyone else hear this? Maybe not...

You're right they are involved in the ETC. They see it as the right place to market/race their road cars against other similar cars. I guess you could say since Porsche cried all winter and got ALMS GT turned into Porsche cup. Tom Milner says they'll be back soon, but we can only hope.

There is a short paragraph in the Sept 2002 issue of Roundel about the ETC but I don't know much about it. What models does BMW use for this series? How are they doing? Is it televised here in the U.S.?

According to the ETC website (http://www.eurostc.com/) they use E46 320i sedans. It appears that there are 3 BMW teams: BMW Team Spain, BMW Team Deutschland and BMW Team Belgium. They are second in manufaturers points just 36 behind Alpha Romeo. I'm a little disappointed that there are no Audi or Mercedes in the series. The next race is in Pergusa Italy on 9/22.

I did manage to catch a race on TV last year but have not seen it since. The Speed Channel website doesn't have it listed. However hightlights might be broadcast on the Motorsport Mundial program that runs on the weekend.

I don't know if Speed will cover the ETC, but I know they have some of the European races (DTM, etc) in the fall and winter so maybe it will show up then. I've heard they are going to have F3000 on this fall.
