Exclamation 89' 520 Battery dead ...Can't unlock car.

I guess my battery is completely dead. Not even enough juice to actuate the solenoid to unlock the car. My question is this....How do I get into my car to unlatch the hood and boost it?

I may have found the answer here.
http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Trouble/Locked.htm

I hope it works as she is German Specs.

1. Insert the master key into the front right door.
2. Pull up the door handle.
3. Turn the key counterclockwise to emergency unlock position 1.
4. Open the door.
5. Close doors and turn the right front door lock to the synchronize position 5.

Didn't work.....Off to step 2...

New Idea

Ok I sent my almost three year old through the ski bag in the trunk. The little trooper was more than willing to help. He scurried through there pretty quick and he tried pulling up on the lock to no avail......We managed to get him to roll down the window, by telling him he'll get chocolates if he does.....With a, "Now push hard this way....Sit on the floor and pull up on the handle....Now pull down again hard!", he summoned all his mighty mouse strength and managed to get the window down far enough for pappy to roll it the rest of the way down, and I clambered in Bo Duke style. I boosted the car, but couldn't get the locks open. The battery window thingy showed black, so I guess the battery is a goner forever. I tried to take it for a drive, noticed it was idling very low. As soon as I put her into geat and gave it gas she died down.....all the electrics slowly went down. So when I try to put any juice to her she dies.
Is it the alternator?????
I don't know what to do next. I suck at car mechanics......I'm asking you guys for help.

Isn't it at least funny?

No replies at all? Not even a smartass comment about sending my toddler in through the ski bag?

I just tried this trick with a copied key and it doesnt seem to work. Is this normal. I broke the OEM key last week doing this but it worked fine up to that point.

Same thing happened to my '90 525i. I used a jack to raise the car, crawled underneath, and attached booster cables to the starter and engine (ground), then connected the other end to my wife's car battery. It worked like a charm.

Michael Jackson would be proud of you.
Sorry, you asked for it.

Note to self: never buy a 89 520.
What kind of car is this that electronics prevent a key to mechanically open a door?
