Nav retro fit

Now that my 530 xiT is on the boat from Bremerhaven to NY I realize that I should have gotten the Navigation system. Dealer says it is impossible to install it now. Is he correct?

I think they once upon a time sold a retrofit kit, but I don't think the do anymore. You're better off cancelling this order and buying another one.

If memory serves me correct, part of the CR scoring is based on # of incidents reported.

Since we have Excellent Warranties and Free Service, unlike the Japanese.....We probably tend to take our cars in more often to complain as we do not feel afraid to complain...........

After all I think I can BITCH and SCREAM about my 545's Turn Signals and Seat Belt alarms!!!!!!!!!!!! after dishing out $65K of course.....

Your Honda / Toyota owner that are just happy to have cheap reliable transportation, who may live with some issues, we BMW Drivers take more seriouly.... hense the more frequent number of incidences reported...... maybe we want better products more than your average joe...

Ignore the penny pinching tightwads at CR and get on with our real lives.

My 2004 can get a retrofit... It will cost me about $3k...

BMW of Mountain View said no problem if I was willing to spend the money...

I thought all 5's come with NAV as stock standard??

Thats why we have the TV in the middle?

In Australia it's all standard, and you can't opt NOT to have it.

In America is it different? What happens when you select Navigation with your idrive?

In America, we have two options: Nav Pro or no Nav at all. The screen is there in all cases, but it is wider for Nav Pro. I think in Australia you have Business Nav standard, if I'm not mistaken.

I figured the main point of i-drive was to make NAV controls easier (which it does)
but if a base model 5 has very little function, the i-drive then serves very purpose...

Similarly the screen also...

dont know if the dealer's correct, but i would never again by a nav built into the vehicle. i've had garmin since 1998 and that the way to go [not necessary garmin, but the principle]. im not pleased with the bmw syste at all. its item such as displating rest stops on the map. you have to fool the system every time to display a simple thing such as that. check out the after market systems that do autorouting. besides you can move it from car to car.
