Hard to start, once started runs great

Anybody have this problem. I have a 90 525i the water pump went out and somewhere in the scheme of things the engine over heated and I blew the head gasket. I have sence replaced the water pump and the head gasket and timing belt. Now the car is very hard to start, but once I get the car started the car runs fine and will do 90+ down the highway with no problems. (It is a hit of miss if I can get the car started)

If I unplug the wiring harness to the fuel injectors the car will start - until it runs out of fuel. I plug the wiring harness back in and the the car just cranks and barely sputters.

I have checked the spark and it possibly is a little week and I believe the spark may not be able to ignite a full fuel spray from the injectors?

I have checked the resistance in the spark plug wires and they all measure about 6k ohms (as stated by Bentley the wires are around 0 ohms and the connector is a about 6k ohms). I would think the wires should not have this much resistance? however it seems to test fine. The onboard computer seem to be fine, no fault codes, my little peake fault code also shows no faults probally because it reads faults off the ECM? The Coil seem to test good. All injector spray fuel. Cylinder compression tests are good. I have re-gaped the spark plugs, adjusted the valves.

To me it seems to be an ignition issue but everything seem to check out OK. I do not want to spend the $250 on wires, distributor and rotor if it is not necessarly the main problem.

My other thought is that maybe the Computer is actually bad and injecting too much fuel in the cylinders for a normal start up. or the computer control spark is firing at the wrong time (to advanced or retareted)

Any suggestion would be helpfull. Thanks Spraker
