Just saw the yet to be available Bugatti Veyron!!

I just saw the new Bugatti Veyron driving down Westwood blvd. right by my place. You guys know what i'm talking about right? Well this thing isn't suppossed to be available to the public til next year. It looked really crazy...something that NASA would make. Here are the specs:

Type: W16, Quad-Turbocharged
Displacement cu in (cc): 488 (7993)
Power bhp (kW) at RPM: 1001(736) / 6000
Torque lb-ft (Nm) at RPM: 923(1250) / 2200-5500

Cool! Too bad you didn't get pics!

But you should post this in the General Automotive forum.

It's probably the Bug that's been driving around Agoura Hills near where VW has some testing facility. I guess the VW folks wanted to see how their Bug would do in stop and go traffic.

It looks like a leech from the front. The Bugatti grille may have been something in the 30's, but it doesn't age well.

Geez. It costs 1.7 million dollars?

Whats stopping someone with a machine gun from walking up to him and politely asking him to step out of the car?

I wouldn't even drive that thing in public. Let alone park it somewhere.

I don't exactly live in the ghetto. Beverly hills and westwood are probably the safest areas to live in the suburbs of Los Angeles.

I hear it costs closer to $8 million to produce, so $1.7 is a bargain.

Unless the person just wants to go for a joyride, they aren't going to get very far with a car like that. 1) you're not going to be able to hide it, and 2) you're not going to be able to sell it. Plus, whoever is driving it probably owns the local police force, so stealing a Veyron would be like robbing a doughnut shop. You're better off stealing 75 Accords.

Cool

I have heard about this car on the 5th Wheel. . .that it has a huge fuel tank which can almost hold around 100 litres . .and you could possibly finish up the whole fuel tank in around 12 mins if you are driving at autobahn speeds in this vehicle. . .

The Boo-gatti is not a car to be driven. It is a car to be purchased and then driven into the living room for the rest of its life. However, if it's stolen it will out race anything until it hits an immovable object. At which point it will become the most expensive junk pile in the history of automobiles. Like 20 crashed VW Phaetons.

I'd love to see the Stig drive this thing. I wonder how the Veyron would do against the other cars on Top Gear's list. I bet it won't beat the Pagani Zonda F.

You could be right. I'm basing my judgement solely on the fact that the the Zonda F is 1400lbs lighter than the Veyron. On the straightaway, the Veyron is faster. But on the Top Gear track? I'd "Give it to the Stig." to figure that out.

I remember reading a magazine article about the Veyron from a guy who test drove it. He said that the car accelerates so violently that it doesn't feel like it pushes into your seat, but it feels like someone took a baseball bat and swung it at the back of your head.

Who would bother stealing this car? You can't strip it for parts (the biggest money maker) and transporting it will attract too much attention unless you have a fully enclosed trailer. The market for these cars would presumably be small, even within the criminal world, so theft is not the first thought.

My biggest worry with this car (and even my 650i) is vandalism from jealousy or a simple robbery where they are after your wallet. The car they might take for a short joyride but even then, how far can they get before it gets noticed? I am sure that iMac paint scheme helps distinguish it from other cars on the road too when the cops have to look for it. Leaving fingerprints and trace evidence like hair or whatnot behind is not worth it for a professional car thief.

For $1.7M, this car better come with OnStar, BMW Assist, LoJack, HiJack, CrackerJack, and everything else under the stars to help in its recovery. Heck, Bugatti should throw in a butler that sits in the trunk just for the heck of it, at least free for the first year and you can pay the subscription afterwards, like we do with our Sirius service.

(Just giving my $0.02 on how the average car thief operates)
