Engine problems

When I first got this car a few months back it ran like a champ, and took all the abuse I could throw at it. but yesterday when I started it up it was all wrong. The car was vibrating WAY to much at idle, and when it started running there was a huge lack of power. Also the exhaust now has a tapping in it. I know my muffler is shot, but I know it can't be causing all this trouble, please help.

somtimes if the rocker gasket is a bit leaky oil can collect around the plugs and cause a missfire like you describe.

mmm let me guess ,you have power atlow down revs but as soon as you put foot down NOTHING ,stand back and take a breath my young jedi, all this abuse you have been giving it ,could of collapsed your cat ,

Sounds like you have a air to fuel ratio problem. First, check to make sure you have no fluid leaks. Check your plugs to make sure they're not fouling out. Next, make sure the intake is free and clear (including no deposits on the throttle body intake). Get a fault code reader (they are cheap, try BavAuto.com), you might need to replace your O2 sensors. Replacing your sensors will make a world of diference on a BMW.

PS If you have platinum plugs get rid of them. Only use original plugs with this engine. I know it sounds strange, but I've done it and it runs like crap. I tried three sets of Bosch platium plugs trying to prove people wrong, I lost. When you get her fixed, run her for all she's worth (It's one of the best cars ever made)
