Ambient LED lights

I have a quick queastion about those nice little amber ambient lights that shine over the center part of your car. Are they supposed to shine on the shifter, or on the cup holder. I've experimented a bit - and my lights are clearly shining on the cup holder. I thought it was supposed to sort of illuminate the shifter so you could see the shift pattern at night.

What do you all think? Where do your ambient lights shine?

That's not quite helpful lol. Does yours actually shine on the shifter itself? Mine is decidedly aimed about 4-6 inches behind the shifter - directly on the front cupholder

I'd say right on the shifter.

Yes, I'd say right on the shifter.

Wow - just as I thought. So can anyone hazard a guess as to how/why my lights are misaligned? Is there a way I can fix this? I think I'd enjoy a nice warm glow on the shift pattern.
Thanks in advance!

Step one: make sure shifter and cup holders are in proper position.
