Post Connecting Rod Recall Cars
I am thinkg of buying a low mileage 2002 M3 which had this recall performed. However, I am still leary of buying the car. I am looking for feedback from anyone who has had this recall performed and have not had any issues subsequent to the recall. It seems like it was a big deal and required several days labor to fix, so I am cautious about this purchase. It has 14k miles on the car.
Any thoughts? Also, is the Borla Exhaust system standard on M3s or an aftermarket Item. Thanks Dan |

The Borla is aftermarket.

I had the work done (they needed the car overnight) and have not had any problems since then. I now have 84,000 miles on it.

I had the recall done twice on my car. I can honestly tell no difference in performance or driveability. I have a 2002 M3 with 34000 miles and it's rock solid. I have no qualms about running the engine right up to the redline, as I(and others) have a 6 year, 100K mile warranty on the engine should it fail.
As for length of the procedure, I recall it taking 1 full day of work, not several days.

My '02 which was subject to the recalls has 39K miles and the engine does not feel weaker nor otherwise inferior to the one in my '04 with 10K miles.

Thanks for the feedback. Any other comments would be appreciated. The car also had both recalls performed as well as some Radio Mask error problem? Not sure what that means.

Does anyone know which cars fall into the recall. I have the BWM letter that someone posted on this website, but I have found other cars that were not part of the vin numbers listed on the letter, yet still had the recall performed. One in particular is a 2003 M3. So it appears that the recall extended from those built in the Oct to Nov 2001 time frame, or whatever the time frame was.
Thanks |

Looks like M3s produced between 2/12/2001 and 5/22/2003.

Two different service actions, no actual recalls.
The first service action was the shorter time frame, my 03/03 build was not included. It was included in the second service action. Actual work took ab out 2 days, of course the dealer didn't start the work for 3 days, when I specifically told them I had to pick the car up on Fri morning.

Mine, replaced twice, it has nothing to do with the rod bearing per say, its the mechanics that you should worry about. As for me, it still kick ASSSSS!!!
