service cost

If your under 50 kmi on the car pay the money to extend the svc contract to 6 yrs 100k just like the warranty. a brakejob alone for the front and rear would run you $1200.00 if you figure in trany service, coolant service and the occssional lamp going out you make out better paying for the service contract.

Call your sevice advisor.

I wish i could, but i brought the car with a little under 51000. So it was past the time. I wish I still had the opportunity to do so. I would. The 1200 is good.

I do have the CPO warranty. So at least i have some coverage to 100k.

I also did the math and 175 is not bad at all. I did not know the life of the oil was 12-15k miles. Average cars you change the oil every 3000 miles, and its about 40 dollars. So if you multiply that by 5 thats 200. So i am happy now. I will gladly pay the extra money. Not to mention the cost of fully syn motor oil.

Is 12k-15k miles the normal interval for an oil change ? Even with synthetic that seems prolonged.

It depends on your driving style. The computer in the vehicle adjusts the required service to your driving style and then makes the adjustmets to the time intervals. Trust the engineering my friend, my 745 has not let me down yet like my other papered ford mustang cobra with synthetic every 3k miles religious with the service at the dealer and 1 supercharger replacement, 2 transmission replacements.

Conversley the BMWs only problem was getting the phone activated (thanks Chowan24)

$300 for an oil service? Must be the new lubricant they use...24K gold flakes engine anti-wear additive that is suspended in the synthetic oil just like zinc, molybdenum, etc.

Is it ok to get the oil change done somewhere other than the dealer or an independent BMW service place?

of course who can screw up a oil change. I had Goodyear do mine. they ordered all BMW manufactured parts for the oil change service that BMW conducts, and all OEM parts for the brake service. Only problem is you have to go back to BMW to have them reset your Computer. Who can screw up a oil change and brake service. Only go to a big chain though.

The dealerships screw up their own cars too you know. I had to get a head light and a tail light replaced once. I gave it to my BMW dealership. They replaced the head lights with something that doesn't work. They replaced the wrong tail light. In the process, they burned out an amplifier, or so they tell me. And they had to completely reset the entire software in my car, including the engine management software. And they had to keep my car for more than a week. Just to get a headlight and taillight swapped.

(I brought in my car, after they got the parts. It took them over a week to swap in the lights after they got my parts, and swapp them in poorly.)

Guess what? Do you think I ever got that call from BMW NA about my visit to my dealership? Nope. Somehow my dealership must have covered up the paper work on it. Who knows what other crap work was done to my car for that week.

We like these 4 year/50,000 mile service contracts, and I admit, they are attractive, but there's always a tradeoff. What that usually is, sadly, is quality of service.
