Will the 300hp bi-turbo come to the new X5?
We've seen so many spy pics of the new X5, so its style is no longer a guess. What about its engine?
BMW just released the news of 335 coupe last Friday. It REPLACES 330. So based on BMW's tradition, sooner or later we'll see 335 sedan, 535 and X5 3.5 (or X5 3.0T, whatever the name is). My question is, when?
For MY2007, we know there won't be 535 since 2007 530 is taking orders now. For 2007 3 series sedan, it's still unknown and there are guesses. What about X5?
The V8 model will probably use the 4.8L, but the entry-level I6?
1) The carry-over 225hp 3.0L N/A. Too old and too weak for a new show.
2) The 255hp 3.0L N/A. It doesn't make sense that BMW puts this engine into X5 just for 1 year, then switches to the turbo in MY2008.
3) The 300hp bi-turbo. Its 300 lb torque (started at 1500rpm) is a great fit for a heavy vehicle like X5, but it's risky to put the brand new engine into multiple model lines at once.
Any idea or info?
