I get it now haha... I missed "parking mat" I just saw the mat and thought it was to protect the bumper from scratches from loading heavy stuff, etc. I'm half asleep today...

Adjacent parkers would probably just figure they could go ahead and not worry about hitting my car - it would make parking easier for them while my car would get pushed around.
Some 6" pointy steel spikes would probably do a better job of keeping people from bumping my car. Kinda like that idea... |

Saw a great alternative on the Southeast Expressway a couple years back - some guy was driving along with a stuffed arm sticking our of his trunk - shirtsleeve, Timex, the whole bit. would probably work just as well as the parking mat, and invite less vandalism.
