I am angry...car got scratched.

I always park my car carefully but finally found a scratch mark.
Not too long(I would say about 8 inches...not a straight line) but how much does it cost to generally fix it?

Also is there anyway you can tell what scratched it?

Your better off going to a Body Shop and getting an estimate for your answers.

First, what needs to be determined is how deep the scratch is: clear only (pray for this) or into color (still not the end of the world), or to the primer (bummer) or worse, to the metal (double bummer).

about half of it has a mark that looks like a tire skidd mark(about 1/5 to 1/6 inches wide) and other half..I see white line(was it scratched all the way down to the metal)?
I feel that someone(people who drop off flyers at home or gardener by accident while mowning) did it.

You might try a pro detailer first, see what they think.

Take it to a high end body shop or detailer--if you're lucky they might be able to color sand and buff it out, if it's not too deep.

post a picture of it. Can you feel the scratch? I always park at the end of a lot. Sometimes when I come out I will find a hoopty parked next to it or a shoping cart. In Germany this only happens on military installations. German parking spaces are tight as hell, but I have yet to get a door ding. I think that they respect others property more.

My active steering is fine now........I am not sure why it got deactivated.
I have not had it deactivated since I posted last time.
But does active steering have anything to do with your driving habit or style?

I feel your pain, go to a Pro Detailer and have them try their best to carefully buff it out. Some ppl just don't respect other's cars/baby

What is buffing? Will it blend in perfectly with the rest of the car?
Also do they have to use BMW specific paint accordingly?

Buffing is literally removing very fine/thin layers of paint. Now keep in mind that the paint could be the clear coat or it could be the color coat: it just depends how deep the scratch is as to whether or not "buffing" will work.

What they do is use a mild abrasive and start removing thin layers of your paint such that the surrounding layers match better with the depth of the scratch thus "buffing out" the scratch. Keep in mind this is done over a larger surface area than the scratch itself encompasses so that the layer removal is "feathered" into the surrounding paint.

Someone who knows what they are doing can achieve excellent results but you first need the scratch looked at by a pro detailer--he will tell you if "buffing it out" is possible or not.

So, no paint is used in buffing...actually paint is removed!

Let me add to the above that sometimes what appears to be a scratch might actually be paint from someone else's car that has rubbed off on yours. This can also be easily removed by buffing.

Man, I feel your pain. I just had my wheels balanced on Saturday - they had my car hostage for over 5 hours. After I got home, someone noticed a scratch on my passenger door. Apparently, someone walked by and keyed my car.

The damage is two parts - one going up in a semi-circle and then another going down. It's not deep and appears to be the clear coat but I'm pissed! Now I've got take it to the local car detail and get them to fix it...I'm thinking it's going to cost me at least $150.

You just don't mess with another man's car...it's just wrong! Good luck and hope you get yours fixed up.
