Dealer Lost my keyfob

So I took my car in for service today, needs the seat cover replaced (vinyl/leatherette is buckling) and I get a call mid afternoon to see if I have the keys .. well of course not they lost my keys and had to send a driver to my home to pick up the replacement. Should ask for any compensation?

I would ask them to notate the mechanic who worked on your car and service writer's name in writing to you. Mainly for future investigative purposes if the car is stolen.

Dealers are hotbeds for shady activity.

Agreed. They should in the very least give you a replacement.

How badly was your leatherette buckling? And was it on the side of the seat?

Both the driver and passenger seats are buckling in my car. I brought this to my dealer's attention, and they ordered some extra foam to stuff into the seat. They never offered to replace the cover.

it was not buckling too badly but enough that I asked them to replace it.

I was hoping they would give me a free oil and filter on top of the replacement key.

I would definitely have the dealer note which employee lost the fob or better yet make them find the fob. Replacing the fob by the dealer is a given.

The same lost fob issue happened the day to me on delivery. As I was ready to leave, the salesman told me they could not find the other fob used by the technicans to prep the car, wash etc.

I told them, I was not leaving without the fob, given that the dealer's staff knows the location of the car. Within 15 minutes, they found the fob.

Why do you see an entitlement to something beyond an apology for the lost key? You didn't have sentimental attachment to it and it will be useless when it's deprogrammed and the dealer orders in another.

If they do something nice for you because they lost it, that's great, but it's not like they damaged something.

One time, my car was at the dealer for service, and an employee drove another car into the door. The SA and the director of customer service called me jointly, apologized profusely, told me how they would take care of the situation, sent me a 1/18 scale model of my car as a present (without my asking) and I just kept the loaner during the process. They handled this perfectly - I had no complaints.

A lost key pales in comparison and I didn't think I had anything to be THAT upset about in my case, given how well the situation was handled.

I think they have exposed the OP to possible auto theft. Or at least the chance of it occuring just went up dramatically.

You think incorrectly then. Don't make the OP worry about something that isn't anything to worry about then.

Nothing to do with keyfob technology per se but you probably got that one right. If you don't know, no need to scare people into thinking their cars will be stolen.

Please see my previous post on this matter.

Oh whatever, shall we talk BMW cooling systems for some real terror? People should be made aware of possible security breaches. I for one would want to know.

Yes, let's move to broken radiator necks in E39s.
