New X5 (E70) spy pics - only light camo!

I was in South Carolina this weekend, and saw two new X5's leaving the Spartanburg manufacturing plant.

Both had the iDrive window on the dash as many have confirmed, and werent too happy about me taking pics of them.

Here are pictures I took a couple weeks ago in Munich..the driver was at a stop light turning left and I was a car ahead of him to the right...stuck my camera out directly at him as he couldn't move, but when the light turned green he wasn't very happy at all and took off..I didn't think to follow him but I should have. I noticed the dash was completely covered with carpet or something similar and he had a bunch of computers/handhelds

I'd sell those pictures to Autoweek or someone like that if I were you.

I dunno, lol.

First, I'd take them off of here so they couldn't get them here and then email the editor and say you have spy photos of the new E70 X5

If someone wants to try selling them, I'll give them permission if they'll split the proceeds with me!

OT question: why and tape? Do they really think the public wouldnt reconize it because of the tape? I guess if people can't tell teh difference between Clark Kent and Superman because of a pair of glasses then may be these really aren't pictures of an X5.

I don't like these spy pictures. Looks too much like X3 and I can't stand X3.

Tine, anymore updates on the E70? The photos above show not much difference in the exterior between the E70 and E53. This can't be right??? what do you think?

It's an evolution. E53 is still such a well executed design for a SAV - proportions & general shape wise - so there was no need for a radical change.

General shape is staying almost the same, as well the proportions. But the E70 is bigger and that is clerly noticable. Therefore E70 looks even sleeker & lower than E53 - giving an appearance of extremely sporty SAV.

But what is new is a sheet metal design. Flame surfacing is there, but not seen weel in the spy pics. The new skin looks really sharp & aggressive. Also interior is new - designed in a manner of 5er / 3er.

It depends what are you looking for.

In dark colors the car definitely looks more aggressive & imposing, while bright colors are more elegant (the lines, +/- surfaces and sharp creases are more exposed; there is more play of light; flame surfacing works better in bright colors).

The best compromise between aggressive & elegant is a medium grey color, or some medium blue. Also some golden bronze color looks OK.

Anyway, you have to see the car in person in various colors, and then you'll decide what you prefer. Pictures can be very deceptive.
