To Individualize Or Not?

It's crunch time now, my pop definatly wants an M6 but i've introduced the idea of the "Individual" BMW to him and i'm having doubts and questions...

#1. Does it take longer for an Indivdual BMW M6 to be built than any other M6?

#2. Does it cost more for the Individual colors, non-custom, than the standard M6 colors?

#3. Do you guys think they look classy, elegant, sporty, retarded?

#4. Can you have BMW custom mix colors, leathers for the car?

#5. Will the fact that it is "Individual" add or reduce depreciation?

#6. Have any of you ever owned or known someone who owned an Individual BMW, and what are your thoughts?

These color combos look nice, choose your preference(sorry all i have is paint right now)-
Moonstone Exterior

Over Merino Leather Platinum/Piano Black Trim

Azurite Black Metallic

Over Merino Leather Gold Brown/Piano Black Trim

Lots of choices if we were to do an Individualized M6.

1. Yes.
2. Yes, much more.
3. Depends on how you configure it and what combo you go with, it could be classy, or elegant, or sport...etc. Retarded? Come on, it's called Individual, why care about others?
4. Maybe not for the US market. But I've seen tailor-made cars, but you'd have to be a big shot like Karl Lagerfeld.
5. It will add value to a certain group of people. You will get most out of it if you could sell it to someone who has similar taste to yours. They'd think the car was custom-made for them.
6. Yes I know of one or two Individual Bimmer owners. What do I think? I'm jeaous!

Is Individualization available for US-bound M6s? Is it available for other models? I don't see it on the website. How can I get my dealer to order it for me? What is available?

Any info you could provide would be appreciated because I do plan to buy an M6 and like the choices available on the German website for Individualization.

Go to the BMW International website-http://www.bmw.com/com/en/index.html, and under models there will be an option for Individual M6, 750i, ect. for almost all the bimmer models.

I'm not sure about if it is avalible, we have yet to sit down the the dealer, this might be a factor if we order one from the states or not, but they might be able to order it as a euro model and just change out the gauge cluster. I too would like more info.

Best way is to do the research and figure out what options you want to order and go find a dealer that is willing to work with you and fight with BMW to approve the order. That dealer will most likely not be dwn the block from you- they may be half way across the country.

Yes. Individual typically adds about four weeks to the production time.

Yes - double, at least.

As others say, it doesn't matter! It's Individual (upper case I) to you - that's the whole idea. You can have midnight blue with ecru for a classy look, Ruby Black and piano wood for elegant, etc. etc. etc.

Yes - at even higher cost.

In the UK, the used market values Individual options at around zero. There is no second-hand premium for fancy colours and trims. In Australia and possibly Canada, you might get away with asking for a bit extra come trade-in time but no-one outside BMW understands Individual, and the whole point of Individual means that you can end up with bizarre colour combinations that might actually make it difficult to sell the car on. You have been warned, before you order Hot Pink metallic with Inca seats .

It's a car, with non-standard colours which may or may not resemble colours from the standard range. Only a BMW OCD type like me is going to appreciate that the colour is non-standard, and that the car isn't quite like all the others out there.

Metallic colors are usually $500 (or used to be). A non standard color (for example- Estoril Blue on an E46 M3) is $2k.

When you get into the Individual options prices skyrocket.

£500 for metallic paint, or £1,000 for Individual. Same in Euros, more or less - €700 for metallic, and something like €1,350 for Individual, depending on which market you're talking about, as it can vary hugely with the VAT rate.

In the US most options are either half-price or free because of specific market economics and requirements. But Individual does not play the same rules, as it has no real substitutes - so if you do find a dealer who can order it for you, you pay a highly inflated rate.

If and when Individual is offered (and it surely would not be at current prices) you can probably use the previous price of $500 for metallic or €1,000 for leather, and double it. Which would still be half the price

In MY 2003 I was quoted $3K on top of the metalic paint for an individual color E46. In addition you were required to pay for the entire vehicle when ordered.

There will NOT be Individual for the M6 or any other Bimmer for that matter in the near future. While in Frankfurt I asked about this specifically. The answer I received was that they are thinking about it, but at that time (Sept, 05) is was estimated to be at least 18 months away for the U.S. which puts it sometime in spring 2007.

Definately nice choices I agree. Too bad, the stock color combos are lacking IMO.

EDIT: I'm talking about full blown Individual, the same that is offered in RoW.

I think I should be able to jump through some hoops to get the Individual M6, if not, oh well, standard colors are still good! Afterall, I'd take a p*ss yellow M6 as long as it performed!

Just reposting in information regarding this topic-

M6 Individual might be able to be sent here, takes about a month longer considering customs colors and interiors have to be dyed and made specifically. Dealership we don't have a relationship with said they would have to repaint it specifically at the dealer. Reeves here in Tampa said they could order us one since we have a good relationship with them but would still be about the same time.

I don't want a whole lot of "individual", I simply want a color that is offered on the standard E63 and on the M6 in other countries... Jet Black. No funky interior colors or trim (though piano black would be nice)

I've seen mixed reports on this, but no solid yes/no. if I'm willing to pay the premium, do you think I could order my M6 in Jet Black? or... would it be best to wait a year or so for "individual"

All that I can tell you for sure is that when I ordered mine back in early April, I wanted Jet Black as well. The answer, "BMW is not offering any special orders at this time", try as I might they just would not do it at any price.

Things change all of the time. Maybe now they will do it. Press forward and good luck.

I just wanted to chime in on this topic. To my knowledge, BMW Individual IS NOT available to North American customers, period. My sales guy held a very high corpoprate position at BMW in Germany and he is very knowledgeable about NA operations. I had pressed him many times and I know he would have done this for me if he could have. He repeatedly told me it was not possible. The dealers I know in the Chicago area are having a hard enough time getting the production version of this car. A very high volume dealer in the Metro area has only taken delivery of ONE so far There is a silverstone one at the Orland Park Dealership in the south Chicago suburbs for anyone interested. I realize that they cater to Cali, Fl, TX for these cars so perhaps they would be willing to do something for you that they would not do for me. However, I would be very surprised if this were the case.

This conversation is entirely different if you are talking about aftermarket individualization. There are a variety of high end places in Cali, Fl, and NY that can "pimp your ride" but this is not the same as having the car produced the way you want it from BMW Individual. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I recently spoke with our distribution contact who handled my special paint request and she informed me that BMW NA is no longer taking special paint requests for any models. It used to be E46 models, but no more. Whew, I got lucky!

What about getting a Canadian M6? Don't they allow for Individual requests?

It is not available in the US but it is available in Canada. I have an individual M6..Ruby black Metallic, champagne leather and figured Ash wood. It was about a $7500 premium and of course does not add a penny to the resale value...
It sure looks good though....

Great colour combo!! Ruby Black is an awesome colour, probably my favourite!! We just delivered an M6 Ruby Black on the standard Black Nappa with Piano Black trim........

We have also delivered and Indy Red with IND Platinum interior and standard carbon fibre trim...

The $7500.00 premium in Canada also includes the full leather (extended Merino is standard), which is $4500.00 on its own, so the IND on M6 is actually $3k premium.....

Individual Available in the Fall of 2008 for the Flagship 7-Series ONLY! Good for us 7-Series Owners/Drivers.

Of course you will have to ask for the option as it will not be publisized like the latest gadgets the cars are getting these days like Live-Traffic NAVI available in late '07. [Starting with the 6 and or 7-Series] Oh baby, the coming years are going to be great for BMW's customers. Nah, Nah, we have the same gadets you guys have too!
