BMW Bluetooth Compatible phones; What WORKS?

Phone model:Motorola Q (Windows mobil 5.0) Verizon
Car model: 2005 525i
[x ] ability to make/receive calls
[ x] phone book automatically synches to car
[ haven't tried yet] dial by name (without verbal training of system)
[ x] calling name display (using adddress book)
[ ] ability to send/receive SMS

Folks, I have a BB 7100g, it would pair up with my BT however the address book would not. Since then, I upgraded the firmware version on my handheld set (Blackberry Web Site) from 4.0 to 4.1 and my device pairs up perfectly with adress book and all. No problems whatsoever.

If not, what is a good quadband phone with Bluetooth that has a good camer that will hook up with BMW?

I have a 2005 645Ci and use a sprint pocket pc phone PPC-6700. Found an add-on to the phone at www.jetwaremobile.com that makes it work. Still has occasional loss of connection related to suspend mode on the phone but sees the address book and otherwise works well.

If you are going GSM, you can get the Motorola SLVR. It works very well and has reasonably good battery life compared to the RAZR.

4-Series. Nice compilation but let me explain why this is not quite as simple as it seems.

Each phone has a variety of firmware levels and sometimes only certain levels work with the car. On the car side of the house, there are different PROGMAN levels as well and these have a similar impact.

Further, as I have found out while testing upwards of 25 mobiles in the past few weeks, sometimes a mobile will work only to stop working. BMW engineers confirm that this is not unusual and that it is necessary to test a phone-car combination over multiple connection cycles.

All good points. I thought about adding the firmware levels but then I did not have the time or the energy I tried to focus on results people posted with recent (most up to date firmwares?) and reasonable recent BMW BT systems (9/05 and later where i could). I just was not able to find a comprehensive list anywhere online and wanted to start one.

I open for suggestions to improve this as i mentioned above and i have a feeling you can add a lot to it Let me know your thoughts.

Treo 680 BT 1.2 (Not available yet in USA, but coming to Cingular soon)
Treo 700 BT 1.2
Treo 750 BT 1.2 (UMTS, can receive data and talk simultaneous)

BT 1.2 is said to be back compatible with 1.1

I had a meeting with a representative of Palm and was told the issue is more due to carrier issues, not BMW.

I have a Cingular 8700C BB and it pairs fine. It also gets address info. No problem. I don't know if the 7100 works or not.

I just picked up the new Samsung Blackjack SMARTPHONE (i607) from Cingular and I've been having problems pairing up the phone with the car. My old Cingular RAZR worked flawlessly, but I can't get this one to work. I've been able to get the phone paired with the car where it recognizes it on the idrive screen and on the phone but I can't place a call.

The phone indicates that it's connected to the car via bluetooth, but the idrive screen will say "please wait" for 1-2 minutes.....then nothing. While sitting in my car the Cingular rep transferred the call to the car and it worked over the car's speakers (even then it said "please wait" on the screen, but then quickly transferred back to the phone and we were unable to get it going again. I've played around with the phone for the better part of 2 hours now and I can't get it to transfer the call anymore.

I re-inserted my sim card into my old RAZR and added the device and got everything to pair up just fine.

Can anyone please help me?

Just replyed to your post on e60.net. I too picked up a blackjack. It works perfectly with my 530i with idrive and Nav. I paired it, and it worked just fine. Only issue is no sending of the phonebook contacts. I will try the jetwaremobile plug and see if that solves the problem.

This is excellent...first updated list I'd seen since the very outdated BMW sheet. Looks like SE and Motorola the most reliable for us. Thanks.

Sprint's Sanyo 8400 also works 100%. Especially in '07 E60.

Has anyone had any more luck or problems w/ verizon treo 700p? My '06 530xit is ignoring it again after 2 trouble free months. Has bmw or palm come up with a patch of any sort? I have not seen anything new.

Hi, my Nokia 6682 does not work with my '07 530i

I have a 2007 530I w/o Nav. and use a LG VX8300 bluetooth phone that works great, phone book and all.

I just upgraded from a Cingular Moto V551 that worked perfectly and not have a new Razr V3i that disconnects from Blue-tooth after I end every call. And the connection just does not seem very strong.

Anyone else having this problem? Wondering if it is the car or the phone or if I should try another Moto phone? Any help anyone can give me would be appreciated. BTW the car is a early 2007 550.
