E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

The E46 330i seems more stable on the highway over the E87130i but in the city the 130i is more nimble and tossable.
I'm no expert on chassis or suspension, but logic tells me that this is a tall order.

When you make cars smaller, lighter (hopefully), and stiffer, there's going to be a tendency to behave like this over bumps.

Don't worry, we'll get the coupe before a sedan, that's almost assured.

I think at this point an M version is very unlikely. But wouldn't a 135i, assuming BMW doesn't make a pig out of it like it did with the 335i, be close enough?

A 135 might spark some interest, but if it is a piggy then no sale. It must be a back to basics BMW.

There really needs to be a four cylinder 1 series - BMW is working on 250 hp fours, that would be perfect as a back to basics sports sedan.

But I'll be happy if I can Euro Deliver a 128i sedan w/out moonroof.

The current 1 series is only a couple hundred lbs lighter than a 3er with the same engine, so it's not exactly "back to basics". Seeing how the 335i pushes well beyond 3500lbs, the 1er might turn out to be one heavy compact car.

The 5 door 130i is 340 lbs lighter than the 5 door 330i.

This could be true and makes good sense I just wish my 130i felt as stable on bumps as my 330i I'm running the same exact setup on both cars.

Have you taken a Z4 for a test drive yet? And if so, how does I30i compare to the Z4?
TIA

Good point, although the 5 door 3er is more of a full-on wagon. Let's hope that the transformation from a 5-door to a coupe/sedan would shave off a good hundred lbs.

info

This is what I just found out-
Late 07 they will start making 128 and 135 coupe and convertible for US.
There is no plans for hatchbacks - actually they will not bring the hatchback for now and nothing was mentioned about sedans.
Bmw guy (not a dealer) said to expect it late next year or very early 08.
Also, he had mentioned about other BMW models that are coming but this is the best news from them all.
Just saw 07 X5 - came out really nice.
