Excessive Oil Consumption on the 750

I have had to add a quart of oil roughly every 4,000 to 5,000 miles. I see no internal or external signs of oil leak. It seems very excessive. Is this normal on the 750? Has anyone else experience the same?

My 2006 750i just turned 6500 plus miles, and I added a qt of oil.

I have had experience with the 750's and yes, they do drink oil. I suspect they slowly burn a quart over 5000 miles. However, on the 745 (older V8) there is no such event happening to my knowledge.

We had to refill a quart at about 6K miles, too, but I don't know if this info is useful since we have a V12...

Thanks for the replies. At least I now know that I am not alone with this oil consumption issue. Sound like it is just the way it is designed.

Hit or miss. My 645 V8 has not required me to add oil in 17k miles. However, my previous 540 needed a quart at around 6k miles.

In general, I have found non M BMW's, need one quart added during the first 3-7k miles. And then after that, you can make it just fine between oil changes without adding any oil.

Occasionally, you get an engine like mine that burns little oil.

IIRC, BMW doesn't consider oil consumption "excessive" unless it is more than 1qt every 1000 miles. It might even be 1L every 1000km

[for the 745] I had to add 1qt prior to the first change and none since...currently 20k miles. I agree with 19's, it's more of an issue with the 4.8L than the 4.4L.
