Oilpan Leak! Help

Hey,

The previous owner of my 325i stripped the threads off the oil pan bolt and replaced it with aftermarket parts... was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to fix it... it constantly drips oil and i cant tighten it anymore... if not any suggestions on where to find a new oilpan that i dont have to pay full price for?

This is kinda tricky. For one you don't really want to go tapping threads on a pan on the engine for risk of shavings, then again it seems extreme to go through an oil pan swap for a strippped drain plug. I honestly would try to *flamesuit on* put silicone on the threads *suit off*. Just makes for timely oil changes.

Either that or gasket maker, which is very similar but made for engine conditions. As soon as you get a chance, you should take the pan off and re-tap it for a new plug and nip the problem in the bud.

Helicoil anyone? I'm sure that one IS available.
Check google for helicoil manufacturers.
Consult a machine shop to find out the pitch of those theads and the threads per millimeter.

It looks like the threads are shot and the idiot that owned the car before me put a counter-pressure rod attached to the bolt so that the bolt doesnt even come all the way out.. looks like i bent the rod trying to get it out... gona have to get a whole new pan... any ideas where to find?

i've seen a rubber plug used with no leakage. also a rubber expanding plug. try a hardware store... ace, true value, etc.
