I would expect the car mags to reach 0-60 times in the neighborhood of 4.1-4.4 seconds easily with a fully broken in M3 and good tires.

I'm extrapolating this from the similarly powered RS4 that has reported 0-60 times of 4.2s (motorweek) and the R&T article reported 0-60 in 4.3s and 1/4 in 12.8 @109.7mph...not bad for a significantly heavier vehicle. Add to that a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds in the R8 (sporting the same engine) by C&D.

Damn, I'd like to see the times of a CSL version of the E92 M3, IF they make one.

Recent magazine quotes here in Asia are quoting 4.6-4.8 seconds which is not all that great My sisters new Lexus IS 350 is 5.1 stock with 4 doors and a regular 3.5 liter V6in it. I was kind of expecting more or better lower times then what the current magazines are claiming. I thought the old E46 M3 did 0-60 in 4.8 seconds

It may be that BMW will not show true numbers lower than the M5 or M6...right now.

Plus, how many consumers even M3 owners really go out and match the auto rags 0-60 times on a daily basis. Spirited driving, Yes, pushing your car to the level of these mags regularly, No.

So really, what does it matter if you can go 0-60 in 2 secs when the majority of the consumers won't be doing it. All these numbers(0-60, hp, tq) have a marketing factor that causes many discrepancies and has to ride that fine line of attracting both sides of the fence to sell the car. Not saying it is right but BMW is in the business of selling cars whether we like it or not.

I hope when I get the New M3 it puts my M5 to shame. I am really hoping it does, I am in the minority consumer section that will push it daily.

We will see when it comes out.

the article is quoting bmw's stated time of 4.8 seconds. bmw's times are always conservative. sooo, using the real world times of the E46 m3 of 4.8 seconds, and the articles mention of being .4 seconds quicker, i guesstimated the E60's time....

unless there are road tests already out with production versions, i would discount any performance quotes until the car is actually out.

+1 I think 4.3-ish is a good guess. It doesn't have the power-to-weight to beat 4.1 with non-monster tires.
