2000 528i CD player

Hey guys. I recently acquired my car but it is still in the shop. Can anyone tell me if the 6CD changer plays MP3 cds or just regular cds? Thank you.

If its BMW OEM, it will not play MP3s.

Solid are you talking about burnt cd's because I have stock 6 disc cd changer in my 98
528i and I play burnt cd's all the time. Not sure if a burnt cd is a mp3 though.

No, stock one's won't play mp3's, considering the changers came out in 98, mp3's weren't even invented yet I don't think, let alone on the market :P

Noone answered my question are mp3's burnt cd's? Or what is an mp3? Because I understand that an mp3 is a burnt cd and some cd's will work and some won't. Mp3's came out along time ago like in 95 or something like that my 6 disc cd-changer in my car will play some cd's but not other's. Same with my brother's car and my friend's car they play burnt cd's just certain one's.

A mp3 is a type of music file .. A burt cd can be either a mp3. or a wav. music file. Most cd burners default to burn a cd as a wav. file because common cd players i.e. home cd player, car cd player, walk-man etc play this type of file. You can burn a cd with the music as a mp3 file but you must have a mp3 capable player to play the cd with mp3 music files.

TY oem got yah. So if you don't have a mp3 compatible player why not burn the cd's as a wav?

That is exactly what I do as most Im sure.. The only drawback is you can only fit about 15-17 wav. songs on a cd as opposed to 200-300 mp3. songs. but with a 6 disk changer 15-17 X 6 is more then enough for me

I wish I could attach my ipod directly to the car. The monster fm transmitter sucks in the city. :/ Me and my 3000+ songs

Get a newer CD player that allows the AUX input...check eBay for a used one.

Doesn't it need to have a certain part number to be compatible? Or just get one thats for an e39 2000?

Any E53/E39 cd player will fit...you might need adapter plugs from BMW but they're cheap.
