Rear tire sizing question
Hey guys, the saga continues;
So I'm looking at rear tires for my 03 530 sport, 265/35/18. I'm having a problem finding that size in stock, not to expensive for various tires brands. But I can get a 275/35/18 in a Toyo Proxes 4. Will this size fit without rolling the fender, or maybe with M5 wheel liners? Thanks for the answers in advance... All I want is new tires, everything is such a hassle!!!!!! BTW, this will be a staggered set, rears are 9.5 wide. Thanks, Denny Windy City BMWCCA |

Well, hard to say, really. But here's something you can do to see for yourself how much clearance is there with the current tires. Carefully drive up onto a curb with one of your rear wheels (use the built-in ramp where there is a driveway) so that one wheel is up on a curb and the other three are at street level. That will force that one wheel up into the wheelwell. Then you can see how much room you have to play with, as going from a 265 to a 275 will be "about" 0.5mm wider per side. If you have a floor jack and some blocks of wood, you can also raise the car, put the wood under one rear tire and lower the car.

I had trouble with 275's on my 2000 540i6 WITH M5 liners and rolled fenders. Car was lowered with BavAuto Springs. 265's do not give me the same trouble.

The wheel offset makes the biggest difference - I have 9.5" Beyerns in back and they have a 25mm offset. No problems at all with 275/35R18s on them and I have the stock liners and fender lips...
