Peake code reader: 70 "Electric Thermostat Control, Final Stage"

My Peake Code reader gave me a code 70: Electric Thermostat Control, Final Stage

My engine does not over heat and I already bled the coolant for any possible bubbles.

Already replaced thermostat/water pump 4k ago
Car: 1998 540i auto

Any suggestions???

Does your AC/heater blower function correctly or not? Because that sounds like the dreaded final stage unit failure. The FSU controls your blower speed, and goes bad in all E39s sooner or later.

If you mean my AC/Heater is working, yes it is. The fan blowing cold/hot air the cabin is working just fine at all speed. What are the symptoms of it starting to fail?

I'm not sure about the V-8's but I didn't think the I6's got the electronic controlled thermostat until 2000? If your thermostat is mechanical, how could there be a code for failure?

Clear the code, and see if it comes back?

BTW, if it is the final stage relay, $70 delivered and 15 easy minutes.

I have had the same message for over 12 months - have reset and it comes back. my 540 has a mechanical thermostat and no cooling or heater problems. So...I've left the code up and not worried. I'd be interested if anyone knows what the code means.
