Help me out bros!!!
Just been reading a bit on here about the M6...I saw a link somewhere on this website with the proper break-in protocol, can someone help me out here...I cant find it again. Also, whats the deal with the oil, I was reading that you will burn oil (I assume) and have to add it every so often...will the car tell you to add it or do you have to check it every few times when you gas up?? I have never owned an M car before...still dont...wont until tues or wed but thats besides the point...only another 2 or 3 days of not sleeping...I was kicking myself in the butt for not going sooner to get this car as in monday or tuesday instead of thursday!!!

i saw a red and black conv at dealer today in the delivery pod and thought maybe that was yours. My car is in for 1st service. I drove to limerock sunday with friends modded up evo and a very nice testarossa. Car was perfect and the show was nice. Small but nice. Next show is greenwich and then scarsdale. They are both really good.

Protocol:
For the initial 1200 miles do not exceed 5500 RPM. Do not use the M button. Do not exceed speed shift 4 (or is it 3 - they will tell you). When you bring it in for the first service (which will be 1200 miles or when the car tells you it is ready), the M button will be enabled and you can start to take it up to redline (8250 RPM) and also start to use the faster speed shifts, which include 6 in P500 sport with DSC off in manual mode. (The fastest speed shift in auto mode is 5.) Oil Use: Oil use will depend on how hard you push it. Bear never uses any oil. He has kept it in auto mode with the lowest (jerkiest) speed shifts. I don't believe he's used a drop. After the break in 1200 miles (the most excruciating 1200 miles you will ever drive), your oil use could be as much as 1 quart (about 1 litre) every 700 miles. But more likely it will be every 1400 miles. There is a "BC" button on the turn indicator stalk which, if you toggle enough and scroll through the various functions, will show you the electric (digital) dipstick. Supposedly, when it gets down to 0.2L a warning light also comes on. (Until now I have always added 0.5L + at 0.3L on the dipstick. I am now waiting to see what happens at 0.2L and will add oil after that.) Do not overfill the oil. If you do, the oil will become frothy and lose its viscosity. It will not longer serve to lubricate your engine. There is no manual dipstick in the car. There is also another oil level function in the iDrive. You must only use 10W 60 Castrol racing oil. The only place I can find it is at a BMW dealer. I have paid as little as $8 a litre and as much as $18. (That was at World Famous Beverly Hills BMW, where the oil is delivered by the Coppertone Bikini team.) I bought 4 litres and keep it in the garage. I added 0.5L at 1125 miles, just before the 1200 mile service. After you add oil it can take up to 24 hours and 150+ miles before the oil gauge (digital dipstick) re-sets and tells you that you have added oil. This is normal (but frustrating). Warranty: Now you know one of the reasons why BMW has taken a big gamble with this F1 technology. And why BMW won't give extended warranties unless their gamble pays off. Right now the jury is out. These are racing engines tamed for the street. They are enormous fun. They are very demanding. Has this been of any help? BTW - Are you picking it up at Peak Kia?

Crude, inappropriate, gansta' culture. Of which I am not a part and in which I have no interest. Whoever created that should go back to his hole. And not come out.

Gangsta' culture?
WTF? are you talking about? You obviously made a snap judgement. "Your sig is correct: Your gametes are diseased." That makes ZERO sense! Whatever "relief" you recommended in the PM ought to be self applied!

My 1 1/2 old M5 with 7500 miles is burning 0.1 liter every 100 miles of highway driving. The M6 is using about the same.
From what I've read, this is about the norm. The 10W60 Castrol, as Mal said, seems to only be available at BMW dealers. I just paid $9 per liter at my dealer. I would HIGHLY recommend that you pick up a couple liters when you pick up your car, or at least when you get your 1200 mile service. I've needed to add oil between services on the M5.
