E92 M3 alpha N?
Reading the latest article about the motor in the E92 M3 seems to indicate it does not have an MAF....indicating it has some sort of alpha N setup. The E46 M3 CSL got another 17 hp from the CF intake and the alpha N, but it was not available on the regular E46s.

From what I understand they did away with the MAF, which is cool.

Well...then it does have alpha N then.

"From front to rear, the entire flow of intake air in the new eight-cylinder power unit does not require the usual hot-film air mass flow meter with its obligatory sensors. Instead of determining engine load by means of such elaborate sensors, therefore, which would also create disadvantages in air guidance due to the geometry of the components involved, the V8 power unit of the new BMW M3 uses the engine control unit to perform this function. To do this, the system determines engine load under current driving conditions by taking the position of the throttle butterfly and idle adjuster, the position of the VANOS control unit, engine speed, air temperature and air pressure into account. This, in turn, gives the engineers at BMW M GmbH new freedom in the configuration and optimisation of the engine air intake process. And at the same time this management concept operates with maximum reliability." -- BMW press release 3/22/07

Doesn't sound as accurate as a proper mass air flow sensor.

It's not. But you can flow huge amounts of additional air that way.

It sounds like an enhanced Alpha-N, one that conforms today's strict emission standards.
Alpha-N uses RPM and the position (angle) of the throttle butterfly (Alpha), where the new system uses these, plus a bunch of other parameters. Of course, this will require a bad-ass DME, which will enable real-time monitoring of all these parameters and forward them to the engine.

Agreed it is much more complicated than what I woudl fit on an S14, but cool nonetheless.
