TMS chip
well guys, I had done all my maintenance stuff, and now I want to get a ecu upgrade, anyone have the "TMS" chip? http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html...6&subcat_id=74
im not too worried about the rev limiter, as BMW probally put the stock on there for a reason, but power wise, anyone running this "chip" and is it actually a ECU and not a chip? Thanks! |

Dont think it is a whole ECU buddy
They will either flash your existing chip or you will get just a chip to go inside the ECU

E36_Phantom has one of these chips, PM him and see how he gets on with it.
He knows his stuff, so will steer you in the right direction

We use Active Autowerks Chips in all of our cars and that is what we recommend to.

I have the TMS chip too. I think Phantom got his on my recommendation. I love my chip. It's a world of difference. Well worth the $ for them.
I'd say that ANY of the name brand i.e. AA chip, Turner chip, Dinan chip, or Bav auto chip. would be a great addition to your car. Based 90% of research i'd say in this order: 1. turner 2: AA or Bav auto 3: Dinan Again, solely on research. I've read that the Dinan makes a little more HPat higher RPM's than the rest, but the quote I liked best was ," Buy a Dinan for the track and a Turner for the street."

It's a chip all the way up to sometime in '95. It's a simple (15 minute) job. Just be VERY careful removing and installing the chip in the socket. The pins are VERY delicate.

TMS Chip
Im running a Turner Chip in my 325i too. I delivers noticeable performance throughout, especially low end. Its worth every penny and very easy to install and yes it is just a chip.
Def. recommend it.

alrighty, thanks everyone! This looks like something I want to be running, so I ordered a TMS chip, other than that my car will be pretty much stock, I put a K&N panel filter in the stock air box, and will definitely be looking into better tires and lighter wheels soon.

If your going to be running the stock airbox, take the baffle out. It will give you a slightly more aggressive intake sound, and about a 20% increase in airflow as well. It's very easy to do, just unbolt the airbox, remove it from the MAF and the snorkel, and look inside from the snorkel side. There is an oval shaped baffle that is held in by 1 clip. Remove that and reinstall. It's basically just for sound purposes.

Yep, the snorkel is the part that ducts air from next to the radiator. You can take that part off too and get a CAI sound, but you will loose a bit of power when you do. You can also order the "Euro" snorkel. It has a second duct that comes up from the brake duct to the airbox. it will actually add a few ponies in comparison to the US version.
P.S. Taking out the baffle is NOT going to give you noticeable gains, but lets face it, gaining 1 hp from removing a part is better than not gaining at all. I should also add that removing the baffle makes a slight whistle sound in SOME cars, didn't in mine but that is what i was told before I did it.

hmm where can I get this "euro" intake? I like to keep the "stock look" for my car, I figure I am going to get the M3 exhaust upgrade as well.

I too also have a TMS chip. Its a chip that plugs into the stock chip in the ECU. Not too bad of a job to do except for the coil of wires in there with the ECU. Its a pain to put it but well worth it. You can totally feel a difference in the car after installing it. It wont make your car a M3 but better than it was when it was stock. And with Turner, its a free upgraded chip I think within 6months to a year, I cant remember but thats if you upgrade your cams and all. Just send the chip back and get a new one free of charge. After their time period, I think its $100 for a replacement upgraded chip.
