What Engine do I have

My uncle just gave me his 97 M3 sedan...or so i thought. Turns out the title says it's a rebuilt 325i. I open the hood and it says "M power", as do all the decals and such...how can I rly tell what engine is in the BMW?

Welcome to the fest buddy

This will be very difficult. Is a good possibility that is has a M3 engine in it, but then you never know

You will have to find the engine identification plate...though i have no idea where it is

Can you post a picture of the engine?

on most bm's your engine identification code should be a plasticy type off sticker above the flywheel on the back of the engine block, take down the nos above and below the barcode and ring your nearest bmw garage, that should tell you one problem, this number is nearly impossible to c you have to get a torch and a mirror with a long handle and play around its probably easier to get at from the bottom if thats possible!!!

Ok, since your car is a 97, it is probabily a 328i not a 325i. A 328i will have an alloy block where the M3 block is Cast Iron, M3's looks black where 328i looks like bright aluminum. Also, the engine identification label on the passenger side shock tower will say what kind of engine came with the car. The instrument cluster of an M3 has some differences too. The tach will go to 8k rpm and between the tach and speedo will be an ///M badge where a normal car will only say 7k on the tach. I suspect that it is a 328i with M3 badges.
