7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

More on Bluetooth Adapter

Since there is no reasonable way to activate your BMW phone (obsolesence), a Bluetooth Upgrade Module (BTUM) is the only way to go. There are two BTUMs out there, so if you go to eBay, be sure to get the one for e65 and e66s produced before 3/03 (84-11-0-410-148) msrp about $340. You should be able to install it yourself, if you are able to locate installation instructions on one of these boards, or get a dealer to print them out for you (P/N 01-29-0-427-201). So this BTUM adapter lets you pair your cell phone into the car's audio and display system - worth the expense without a doubt. Not all cell phones will pair, however. The approved list of fully pairable phones is on the bmwusa web site.

I have an '02 745i and I purchased the BTUM to replace OEM phone - works like a charm with my Blueberry 8800, address book and all. It's great that BMW ensures that we can upgrade certain components on our vehicles to stay with the times, because I intend to keep my Bimmer a long time!!

You can still get the older phones activated. I bought one off ebay and had it activated with a prepay service. It was the wrong phone though, it was just a regular startac, I just finally found the BMW startac, so I should have it in 3 or 4 days. They said they would activate that one too.
