Question Question for the gurus...

How are our wheels finished? With paint? Powdercoat? There's a guy on the toad trying to peddle his Alumishield or something. It's some magic caoting you put on your wheels (like a laquer) that is supposed to make cleaning brake dust as easy as "washing them with soap and water." Well my wheels are cleaned every time with soap and water, and they come out perfectly clean, so why would I spend $60 on this stuff he's selling?

He says it's because our wheels are powder coated and therefore porous, and brake dust gets into the pores, so we should use his sealant on the wheels.

I can't imagine the outer most layer of ? on the M roadstars being a powdercoat.

Please clarify for my sanity!

Adam

Brake dust is VERY corrosive. If you don't clean it off in a timely manner it WILL ruin the finish on the wheels. Is the M roadstar wheels more prone to this? *shrug* Would the product help? Maybe. I'd be wary of it damaging the finish and turning yellow over time.

How much is he asking?

Since you live in DFW- there are 2 places that will refinish rims for about $100/rim. I don't know if they are able to make the finish on these rims or not.

1. Chromate
2. Powder coat
3. Paint coat
4. Clear coat

Ok, so then if the wheels are finshed with paint and then clear coat, any small pores in the powdercoat would already be filled.

The guy wants $60+ for this stuff and says it will repel brake dust. I think he's nuts.

Besides, Zaino does that just fine for me!
