Any DIYs on repairing gear stick?
I wanna recondition my mbadged gearstick, in a sense that the black background behind the numbers has faded. How do i get to it? How does the stick come off, and so on. Tried to see some threads here on it, but found nothin...

To get the stock gear-knob off you just need to pull it upwards VERY VERY hard
Get in the back seat if you need more leverage and be careful not to hit the rear view mirror or, worse, yourself in the face!!

Oh, ok...
Mine comes off pretty easy when you lift it and I thought it was stuffed. The knob it a bit loose and moves around on the shaft. (I'm sure there's a comment coming there...) I read somewhere you need to take the cover off and undo grubscrews. |

oh just too easy!!!!! ![]() U tried just sticking abit of electrical tape or similar around the shaft (here we go again!!) and jamming the knob back on (ohhh it gets worse!!) Might be enough to make it abit more solid?? Failing that a doctor might be able to help Last edited by oakley; 08-09-2007 at 07:32 AM. |

I just wondered if its possible to remove the top part where the numbers are WITHOUT removing the knob itself.

Most likely you can pry it apart with a very thin flat-head screwdriver. Just be careful not to scratch anything.

I'd like an illuminated one without the ///M but I suppose they don't exist!
