2006 M5 burns oil

My car seems to burn oil at highway speeds in M mode, sometimes a quart in 1000 miles. Is this normal? Around town consumption is minimal. I have about 11,500 miles on the car.

Sounds OK to me - I guess it all depends on your driving-style..

I've been told the following:

If you drive a lot of short trips the car still burns oil. However, the water that accumulates never gets boiled off until you do a longer trip.

Therefore you notice a loss of oil on a longer trip.

Nope, still burns plenty in P400. Its just the nature of the beast.

so i can drive on 500 all the time?

i have had the same experience. no one at the dealer was worried. price of oil is pretty darned high, tho, isnt it?

I've never heard anyone say that you can't.

Yup, My 06 burns about a quart every 1000 miles. Pretty normal occurance. My brother also has an 06 X5 4.8is that burns about that much too. That's why M5's have that oil level meter to let you know. Just keep pushing that button on the side.

I drive in M mode all the time w/ no issues. What a lame concept to build a 500hp car and one must push a button to achieve that 500 hp. I have no interest in keeping mine in P400mode. The car seems like a slug in the mode.
