Ron, Jon, anybody else? My owner's manual says...

...I (we) have an instrument cluster light for "Check Filler Cap", I guess for indicating a failure in the evaporative vapor recovery system. However I have no such light illuminating when switching the ignition on in order to test the instrument cluster indicator lights and according to the manual, which I know can be wrong, this light is one that is supposed to illuminate during the test.

Another case of the manual being wrong or do I have a burned out bulb?

Yeah, it's called the Check Engine Light.

One problem, there ain't no "Check Engine Light" on 2001/2002s. There is a "Service Engine Soon" light which reflects emission control faults and an "EML" light which reflects engine electronic faults. The manual says there is a "Check Filler Cap" light which presumably is a check of the fuel system eveaporative recovery system.

I'd like to know if anyone with a 2001 or 2002 (in my case an M Coupe) has the "Check Filler Cap" light function test at ingintion start.

Doesn't on my '01 M coupe.
Doesn't show up in the ETM either.
Next time I have the cluster out, I'll check.

Your dealer should be able to order the ETM for you.

Mine offered to when I was trying to find "service/parts manuals" back when I first bought the 99 (they wouldn't get me the ETK/TIS though).

The most current ETM, at least CD based, that Central Letter offers appears to be one that only covers Z3s from 1996 through 1998. You're right, maybe the dealer has something newer or maybe there are paper updates.

My 02 X5 isn't on the ETM I have, but the 99 & 01 M Rdstrs are.
